Not a problem at Goodman Park Ice Rink, where LED lighting is available from sunset until 10 p.m. Activated by a push-button on the maintenance shed, the lights stay on for one hour, with a strobe-light warning five minutes before shut-off. There are hockey goals and a portable restroom, but be sure to bring your own skates. Hours are 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. daily, and admission is free.

The grounds surrounding Tenney Park Frozen Lagoon are considered one of the more scenic areas in the city. With the skating rink spanning most of the lagoon's southern half, it's the largest facility among Madison parks. Skate rental is available for $6 per hour for adults and $3 per hour for ages 15 and under. Grab a snack or some toasty hot chocolate at the concession stand and warm up in the pavilion. A pedestrian bridge to the island leads to the hockey rink. Hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, noon - 8 p.m. Saturday, and noon - 6 p.m. Sunday. There is no fee for skating.

Vilas Park is one of the older parks in the city. Vilas Park Ice Rink is open for general skating, while the adjacent rink with boards and goals is open for hockey. Both rinks are lighted for evening use. Amenities include a concession stand and a warming shelter. Skate rental is available for $6 per hour for adults and $3 per hour for ages 15 and under. Hours are 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays, noon - 8 p.m. Saturday, and noon - 6 p.m. Sunday. There is no fee for skating.
