Earth Day

Earth Day is happening on April 22, 2025, and there's certainly no shortage of ways to celebrate this beautiful planet we call home. Whether you're interested in volunteering to help clean up your favorite local park, going for a run on a beautiful spring day, or attending an Earth Day celebration that mixes art with nature, there's sure to be something to do. Here are a few Earth Day events and volunteer opportunities in the Madison area that you can take part in this April.

  • Sun Prairie Earth Day Parks Cleanup – 1357 Linnerud Dr., Sun Prairie, WI 53590
If you're interested in volunteering for Earth Day, then the Sun Prairie Earth Day Parks Cleanup is the perfect chance to do just that. It starts with the kick-off event at Sheehan Park before participants head to parks throughout the city to do some spring cleaning. Sign up to help clean your favorite park or even pitch in at multiple parks. Since Earth Day falls in the middle of the week, many events are happening the weekend before or after. Join others on April 26, 2025, starting at 9:00 AM, with advance registration available online to pick which park you'll help clean.

  • Earth Day 5K – 132 Market St., Ste. 200, Sun Prairie, WI 53590
Run for a good cause and celebrate the natural beauty of Wisconsin with the Earth Day 5K, hosted at The Loft 132. Your registration includes entry into the race, raffle tickets, two drink tickets, and delicious pizza from Ian's. The charitable partner for this year's Earth Day 5K is The Sunshine Place, so a portion of your entry fee goes toward supporting a good cause. The Earth Day 5K is on April 19, 2026, with the official start at 9:30 AM.

  • Earth Day Celebration at Cave of the Mounds – 2975 Cave of the Mounds Rd., Blue Mounds, WI 53517
How about celebrating Earth Day by heading underground? The Earth Day Celebration at Cave of the Mounds is a truly unique celebration that allows you to see a fascinating local attraction in a whole new light. Cave of the Mounds will come alive with two hours of live music ringing off of the rocky walls, complemented by all of its beautiful, natural sights. The event also includes a complimentary photo and drink,  plus a tempting selection of appetizers to sample while you explore. It all takes place on April 19, 2025, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

  • Earth Day Challenge – Multiple parks throughout Madison
Of course, you'll find Earth Day events in Madison as well, including the annual Earth Day Challenge on April 26, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You, your family, and friends can help get Madison's parks ready for spring and summer enjoyment at 60+ parks throughout the city. Gloves and bags will be provided.
