For dog owners, looking for a new home isn't just about finding a place with all the amenities that humans need. It's also important to live somewhere where our furry friends will feel at home.
Luckily, with an abundance of dog-friendly parks and trails, restaurants with outdoor patios, and even pet-friendly hotels, Madison is a great place for dogs. These are some of our favorite places to take our dogs here in Madison.
When pet owners and their canine companions need a little retail therapy in the Madison area, Hilldale Shopping Center is the place to go. This combination indoor/outdoor shopping center on the west side of Madison is quite welcoming to leashed pets, including many of the individual retailers. Look for the small, blue dog window stickers that let you know a particular shop welcomes dogs. Hilldale Shopping Center includes several shops that sell pet toys, treats, and accessories, and multiple eateries in the complex allow pets to dine with their people on outdoor patios.
By law, restaurants and breweries that sell food can only allow pets to accompany their owners in outdoor dining areas and patios. Luckily, since BarleyPop Tap and Shop doesn't offer food, they don't have those restrictions. Well-behaved pooches are more than welcome in this local watering hole, which is beloved among local craft beer and cider aficionados. The shop features:
Nestled in Madison's Wingra Park Historic District on the near-west side, Bloom Bake Shop is a warm, welcoming bakery with a bright, homey vibe. The shop offers freshly made cakes, donuts, cookies, cupcakes, and pastries daily, along with sandwiches on house-made bread. Bloom Bake Shop is also known for its dog cupcakes and cookies. It's take-out only, so you and your pooch can enjoy your treats as you explore the vibrant Monroe Street neighborhood.
The Boneyard is a favorite among Dane County dog lovers. This locally-owned dog park biergarten has earned a dedicated following for its generously-sized dog park and a rotating selection of craft beers on tap along with a full bar featuring cocktails and non-alcoholic selections. They also offer:
Madison has no shortage of great outdoor dog parks—including Warner Park and Capital Springs Park—but it also has an amazing indoor dog park: DoggieLand Play Park. Offering training courses, off-leash play areas, and even a canine aquatic center, this private indoor dog park is a beautiful place for dogs to play, socialize, and just be dogs. DoggieLand Play Park also offers training, boarding, grooming, and a doggie daycare facility.
